New opportunity on Instagram

Instagram has just dropped a new app called Threads, rumored to be a rival to Twitter with an official launch expected on July 6th. This is an exciting move for Instagram, especially considering Twitter's recent rate-limit errors.

What makes Threads interesting is that it seamlessly imports your Instagram followers and following lists. So, you don't have to start building your community from scratch. Your existing Instagram circles will be there right from the beginning. How cool is that?

Threads is all about bringing communities together to chat about whatever you're into, from today's hot topics to what's trending tomorrow. You can connect with your favorite creators and find others who share your passions. Plus, you can build your own loyal following and share your ideas, opinions, and creativity with the world. Express yourself, my friend!

Threads seems to be launching at the perfect time to take advantage of Twitter's constant snafus.

My take: Muslims! Get on this fast and take over. Whenever a new platform is launched the first creators on it who consistently post get the most reach. It makes sense though right? In the beginning there’s little competition.

BUSINESS

Is the Taliban stabilising Afghanistan’s economy?

Inflation in Afghanistan has taken a dip, according to the Islamic Emirate's spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid. He claimed that research shows the price of goods in Afghanistan is now cheaper than in many developed and underdeveloped countries. The World of Statistics on Twitter confirmed a -1 percent drop in Afghanistan's inflation rate. The Deputy Minister of Economy attributed this decline to increased exports, support for domestic products, and efforts to prevent currency smuggling. Economists emphasize the importance of boosting trade with regional and global partners to further improve the country's economy.

Acting Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir expressed optimism, stating that Afghanistan is on track to achieve self-sufficiency in food production, which would greatly benefit both the people and the government's economy. The World Bank also reported a stabilizing economic outlook in Afghanistan, with expected positive growth in the coming years, thanks to the return of aid flows.

Overall, Afghanistan is witnessing a decrease in inflation, leading to more affordable goods. Efforts to promote exports, support local products, and prevent currency smuggling are cited as key factors in this positive trend. The country's leaders are emphasizing the need for increased trade, agricultural development, and investment attraction to further strengthen the economy. With returning aid flows and a stabilizing economic outlook, there is hope for positive growth in the coming years.

BUT when you type Afghanistan inflation in Google news only one or two Articles confirm this such as https://tolonews.com/business-184021 so is this news being suppressed or is it propaganda? I don’t know tbh, but just thought I share some alternative views.

At least 8 killed in Jenin, Palestine 🤲🏻🤲🏻🤲🏻

Bullet point overview of the situation:

  • Israel's incursion into the occupied West Bank, specifically targeting the Jenin refugee camp, has led to growing calls for the protection of civilians and concerns about the potential for a devastating war.

  • The recent attack on the camp is the largest military operation in the occupied territory since the Second Intifada in 2000-2005.

  • At least eight people, including two children, have been killed, and ongoing combat has resulted in the evacuation of around 3,000 people from Jenin.

  • The Israeli military has deployed hundreds of forces, utilized drones and airstrikes, and targeted infrastructure by destroying homes and roads.

  • Journalists reporting on the events have been directly targeted, and there have been instances of media members being killed or having their equipment destroyed in previous raids.

  • Israel's aim in targeting Jenin is to crush resistance and prevent Palestinian self-determination, according to analysts.

  • The international community has strongly condemned the Israeli raid and called for an immediate halt, with concerns about a potential escalation and violations of international humanitarian law.

  • Israel's ongoing aggression has raised fears of an escalation with armed groups in the Gaza Strip.

  • The emergence of a new generation of Palestinian fighters in Jenin and Nablus is seen as a response to the long-standing occupation and previous instances of resistance.

  • The situation since the 2008 assault on the Gaza Strip has shown a continuous escalation by Israel against Palestinians, with the aim of crushing any form of resistance.

  • Various countries, including Turkey, Qatar, Jordan, and Egypt, have expressed deep concern and called for international intervention and the protection of civilians.

  • The United States has expressed support for Israel's security while emphasizing the need to protect non-combatants.

Let’s all keep Palestine in our prayers 🤲🏻 and help in your own unique way, whether that’s donating, raising awareness via speaking, updating your status or even just mentioning it to the people close to you.

CYBER SECURITY

Tech companies have been busy fixing security holes

June was a busy month for software updates, with Apple, Google, Microsoft, and other enterprise software firms rushing to fix serious security flaws. These vulnerabilities have been exploited in real-life attacks, so it's crucial to update your systems promptly.

  • Apple released iOS 16.5.1 to fix security vulnerabilities in WebKit and the iOS kernel, including "zero-click" attacks.

  • Microsoft's June Patch Tuesday addressed 78 vulnerabilities, including CVE-2023-29357, allowing authentication bypass in SharePoint Server.

  • Google released the June Security Bulletin, patching critical vulnerabilities in Android's System component, WebRTC, and Qualcomm components.

  • Google Chrome 114 fixed critical vulnerabilities in Autofill payments, WebRTC, and V8.

  • Progress Software's MOVEit Transfer product patched SQL injection flaws used in real-life attacks.

  • VMWare addressed critical flaws in Aria Operations for Networks and vCenter Server, including command injection, deserialization, heap overflow, and memory corruption vulnerabilities.

  • Cisco fixed vulnerabilities in AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client and Cisco Secure Client Software, including a privilege escalation flaw.

  • Fortinet patched a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability, CVE-2023-27997, enabling remote code execution.

  • SAP's June Patch Day fixed various flaws, including a high-severity cross-site scripting vulnerability in SAP Knowledge Warehouse.

I got tired after reading the first one.

The key takeaway: Keep your devices updated so you are protected against these known hacks.

836 years ago today, Salahuddin battled for Palestine 🇵🇸

Midjourney prompt: The battle of Hattin

The Battle of Hattin, which took place on July 4, 1187, was a significant military engagement during the Crusades. It was fought between the forces of Salahuddin (also known as Saladin), the Sultan of Egypt and Syria, and the Crusader armies led by Guy of Lusignan, King of Jerusalem.

The battle occurred near the city of Tiberias in present-day northern Palestine. Salahuddin's forces strategically maneuvered to draw the Crusader armies away from their fortified positions and into the arid and water-deprived region of Hattin. This tactic severely weakened the Crusaders, who were heavily reliant on their armored knights and lacked the necessary supplies.

Salahuddin's army, composed of skilled archers and light cavalry, engaged the Crusaders in intense combat. The Crusader forces struggled in the scorching heat and were ultimately overwhelmed by Salahuddin's tactical prowess and the disciplined Muslim forces. Many Crusaders were taken captive, including King Guy of Jerusalem and the influential Knights Templar Grand Master, Gerard de Ridefort.

The victory at the Battle of Hattin was a turning point in the struggle between the Crusaders and Salahuddin's forces for control of the Holy Land. It paved the way for the subsequent Muslim liberation of Jerusalem, which occurred in October 1187. Salahuddin's capture of Jerusalem marked the end of almost a century of Crusader rule over the city.

Salahuddin's approach to ruling Jerusalem differed from the previous Crusader rulers. Instead of initiating a massacre or indiscriminate destruction, Salahuddin showed mercy and offered fair terms to the defeated Crusaders. This approach earned him admiration even among his opponents and showcased his reputation as a chivalrous and honorable leader.

The Battle of Hattin and the subsequent recapture of Jerusalem by Salahuddin had a lasting impact on the Crusades. It not only dealt a severe blow to the Crusader presence in the Holy Land but also significantly boosted Salahuddin's reputation as a formidable military leader and a unifying figure for the Muslim world. His successful campaigns and the liberation of Jerusalem solidified his position as one of the most prominent figures in Islamic history.
